Challenge:
In 2019 Swanley Town Council reviewed the condition of their outdoor paddling pool at Swanley Park and discovered surface cracks in the pool tank and filtration equipment that would need replacing ahead of their next season. Due to the popularity of the outdoor paddling pool, Swanley Town Council took the decision to embark upon a procurement process to invest in the enhancement and longevity of their outdoor aquatic play facility at Swanley Park in 2020. Ustigate were especially pleased and proud to be awarded the contract to establish Swanley’s new facility as Swanley Park is located just 6 miles from Ustigate’s head office in Dartford. Many of the Ustigate team have enjoyed many great days out at Swanley Park and described the paddling pool as the place where most of their earliest and fondest water play memories were formed.
2020 was a challenging year for everyone worldwide. At the beginning of the year it was business as normal but at the tail end of the first quarter we were all introduced to an unprecedented and fast approaching pandemic. Ustigate took time to pause, listen and learn. New safety measures were implemented according to Government guidelines and Ustigate returned to enhance Swanley Park.
Success:
Tried and tested! The above photographs feature our 3D designer’s daughter Karmaya and good friend’s Evie and George having the best of fun! Evidently, Swanley Park is still the place where new and best water play memories are formed!
Our installation included the design and build of a larger paddling pool and Splashpad® scheme and a PWTAG compliant water management system. The state of the art recirculation system will enable Swanley Town Council to sustainably collect, treat and recycle water for their aquatic play.
The splash pad includes sixteen products sourced from our long term aquatic partner Vortex International. There is a trio of tipping buckets to thrill and spill on a hot summers day, and a combination of strategically placed, sequenced water jets to provide every water player with an incoming spray, whether they be in the pool or on the splash pad. The installation includes a DDA compliant activation bollard and three foot activators to enhance the interactive experiences involved. Swanley’s new and exciting facility with its paddling pool and inclusive splash pad is accessible to every age and ability and it will be enjoyed by families and friends for decades to come.

Swanley Park is one of the best parks in the UK; honoured by its prestigious Green Flag Award and a TripAdvisor® Certificate of Excellence in 2019. The awards are well deserved as Swanley Town Council work hard to look after their community, with works that include Swanley Park’s maintenance and enhancements. The fruits of their labour is clearly seen and enjoyed by many with over 400,000 visiting Swanley’s 60 acres of picturesque parkland, and its ever improving and growing facilities every year.
In 2018 Swanley Town Council introduced a Hand Boat Pool, Battery Cars, JCB Digger Rides, Family Canoes, Nerf Parties, a Bouncy Castle Zone and with the help of 100+ volunteers, a new woodland made up of 625 trees called Remembrance Wood, planted in memory of our armed forces. In 2019 Swanley Town Council added Water Slide, Mini Golf Island and an Outdoor Pre School. From 2020 Swanley Park’s attractions include all the above plus a large playground, a sand play area for the under 7’s, a cafeteria, an outdoor gym, boating lake, a miniature railway and an outdoor paddling pool and splash pad! Swanley Park is definitely a great day out for everyone!
